about

Jonathan and I wrote this album in the summer of 2006, shortly after I moved into a house with a band called Brightwood in a small town about an hour outside of Portland. The majority of the songs were composed musically during a one-week span, and finished in the following weeks in Pro Tools. This was our first "real" release, and our first time recording an album in Pro Tools, so we really learned a lot on this one!

Our friend Wookie was also playing with us at that time, and would come up with really cool lead lines over the songs that we were writing. He and I played together for a solid year or more, even after Jonathan returned to North Carolina to finish school, and the bonus acoustic song "What I Need" is probably the best example here of what we were doing at the time.

We had some valuable help from the Brightwood boys, particularly the brothers Brittell, making this quite the brotherly affair, in the truest sense possible. This EP wouldnt have even been a possibility without the help of them boys.

about

ELANI Portland, Oregon

ELANI was formed in 2005 by Chris & Jonathan Miller on the heels of their North Carolina-based fun-rock band "Alfonso". ELANI grew to a four piece in 2006 and was big on myspace and in coffeeshops, but mostly lived inside of the imagination of the brothers Miller. "Speaking in Cursive" was the breakout EP that landed a few singles in independent films and put ELANI on the Portland-area map. ... more
